To the great folks at VCAS:
Back in May (2008), we visited the VCAS Mobile Unit that was at the North Big R Store in Danville – and let me tell you, it was one fateful visit. We had been giving serious thought to adopting another kitten as a companion for our then 10-month-old cat Tiburon. We knew that Tiburon wasn’t aggressive or territorial, and we thought a kitten his age or younger would be a great choice so we could avoid any of those tendencies. We weren’t prepared for who we were about to meet.
When we went inside the trailer, we found the most loving, adorable, laid-back and absolutely beautiful tabby we’d ever seen or could hope to ask for. We were in love, but I was worried – this was no kitten, but a full-grown, recently neutered, gigantic cat. And no one had any idea why he’d been surrendered. I was worried that maybe he’d been aggressive to other animals, or was territorial (spraying issues)… but deep down, my husband and I knew: he was the one.
How right we were.
We got him home on that Saturday afternoon and made him comfortable in an unused room – the door was closed, but there’s a large gap between the door and the floor. This allowed our kitten Tiburon to become acquainted with our new family member. There was much sniffing and paw-batting under the door, but I never once heard a hiss or a growl. After two days of this, and frequent visits by us to our new guy with the door open, we decided it was time for the boys to meet one another face to face.
They started off their relationship by playing, of all things.
It’s been just over 3 months now, and I have to tell you that I simply cannot imagine our lives without this magnificent creature. His new name is Montrose (he was named Tiger), and he and Tiburon are the best of friends. They wrestle and play, groom each other, and cuddle together. Montrose is gentle, laid back, and very loving. We have no spraying or litter box issues - no clawing or scratching, either. I can’t imagine why or how he came to the shelter, but we are so very thankful that he was there that day.
Our thanks go to all the great people at VCAS. Your kindness, caring and commitment have helped to make for another happy Forever Home.
Sincerely,
Brian and Cheryl Bretz
